The John Wallace Swim School holds an annual event called ‘SwimSAFER Week’ thanks to the support of Swim Australia to help educate the children of safety tips and procedures in and around the water. The weeks main objective is to highlight vital water safety messaging, focusing on the importance of an Emergency Action Plan – primarily for use in and around aquatic environments.
WHEN? November 20 – 25
HOW DOES IT WORK? All students (from Starfish Beginner to Bronze Target) will be conducting part of their swim lesson fully clothed while the teacher takes them through Safety Procedures and rescue scenarios.
WHAT TO BRING? Bring along some old clothes for your child to swim in, a plastic bag for afterwards and don’t forget your progression card so this can be ticked off as competent.
With the summer holidays fast approaching, Australia is heading into peak drowning period. Approximately one-third of yearly drowning deaths occur in the summer months. For every child drowning death, there are up to four children admitted to hospital, as a result of a non-fatal drowning incident.
