LEVELS & REQUIREMENTS

To progress from JWSS Marlins to Bronze Target Squad

You must complete a minimum of 3 stroke certificates, and have a good basic knowledge of a 4th. You must also complete a 400m swim and IM turns.

To progress from Bronze Target Squad to Bronze Squad

You must complete the following swim and kick sets:

  • 8 x 50 freestyle on a 60 cycle
  • 6 x 50 kick on a 1:30 cycle (choice of stroke)

You must also complete one of the following swim sets:

  • 6 x 50 backstroke on a 1:10 cycle
  • 6 x 50 breaststroke on a 1:15 cycle
  • 6 x 25 butterfly on a 45 cycle

Sessions Recommended: 3-5 swim sessions per week for good progress
Note: You will need to book in for a short meeting with the Bronze Coach to discuss any questions you may have for your child and the session and days that you would like to attend.
Equipment Needed: Swim bag, fins, pool buoy, kick board and water bottle
(As a new squad member, you get a 20% discount off your first swimming equipment purchase. From then on, you will always receive a 15% discount on all swimming equipment purchase, as long as you remain in squad.)

To progress from Bronze Squad to Silver Target Squad

You must complete the following swim and kick sets:

  • 10 x 100 freestyle on a 1:50 cycle
  • 4 x 100 kick on a 2:30 cycle (choice of stroke)

You must also complete one of the following swim sets:

  • 6 x 100 backstroke on a 2:00 cycle
  • 6 x 100 breaststroke on a 2:00 cycle
  • 8 x 25 butterfly on a 40 cycle

To progress from Silver Target Squad to Silver Squad

At this level, we want you to have a burning desire to be a great pool/surf swimmer and be willing to do a minimum of 5 swim training sessions  plus 2 core sessions per week. This will depend on the swimmers age.You must complete the following swim and kick sets:

  • 10 x 100 freestyle on a 1:45 cycle
  • 4 x 100 kick on a 2:15 cycle

You must also complete one of the following swim sets:

  • 6 x 100 backstroke on a 1:55 cycle
  • 6 x 100 breaststroke on a 1:55 cycle
  • 10 x 25 butterfly on a 30 cycle

Equipment Needed: Swim bag, fins, pull buoy, kick board, finger paddles, water bottle, hand paddles, centre snorkel and skipping rope.
Gym: For girls 12 years and older, and boys 13 years and older, your coach may recommend you to start gym. This will be an extra cost. Gym information flyer will be provided.

To progress from Silver Squad to Gold Target Squad

You must swim a minimum of six sessions per week, depending on age. You must make a commitment to swimming as your primary sport and be swimming at a minimum of State qualifying times. You must also complete the following swim and kick sets:

  • 20 x 100 freestyle on a 1:30 cycle
  • 4 x 100 kick on a 2:00 cycle

Equipment Needed: Swim bag, fins (short blade), pool buoy, kick board, hand paddles, finger paddles, centre snorkel, drag suit, water bottle and skipping rope.

Senior Surf/Tri Squad

Complete the following swim set and kick sets:

  • 10 x 100 freestyle on a 1:30 cycle
  • 4 x 100 kick on a 2:10 cycle

Equipment needed: Swim bag, fins, pool buoy, kick board, hand paddles, centre snorkel, water bottle and skipping rope.

JWHP Gold Squad (12 years and over)

This level must be totally committed to swimming and be swimming at a minimum of Age National qualifying times. You must be willing to train the swimming sessions, gym sessions and core sessions as directed by the head coach.
Equipment Needed: Swim bag, fins (short blade), pool buoy, kick board, hand paddles, finger paddles, centre snorkel, drag suit, water bottle and skipping rope.
